Catch up with all the project news in this months video update, which covers progress on the SSE Turbines, Activities and & Events
Turbine update
April and May were quite productive but the sheer lack of wind we had in June did knock back generation. There have also been issues with the system that SSE uses to control curtailment (ANM) which has led to this being higher than expected. July has seen not only further issues caused by the ANM system but we have also picked up a fault in the turbine itself. Which (as of the 28th of July) we are still waiting for the Enercon engineers to rectify. Hopefully, they will return to the site very shortly and have us up and running again very soon 🤞

Wellbeing Activities and events
Nicky has several activities taking place over the summer months which are so far being enjoyed!
Walks, talks & picnic
Nicky has arranged a series of walks with Vicky Anderson, RSPB warden, exploring the RSPB reserves of Onziebust in Egilsay and Trumland in Rousay. This is a great way to explore the abundant wildlife and wildflowers on the islands and enjoy a walk and a picnic together. The first walk took place in June on RSPB Trumland reserve and there are 3 further walks planned in August & September, the next is on Saturday 5th August in Egilsay.
A few of the walkers birdwatching (we spotted a buzzard with its young in the nest from a safe distance) and learning about the carnivorous Sundew plant which grows in the wet conditions of the peatland.
Wellbeing Pampering sessions
Nicky also received grant funding to provide free well-being pampering treatments with Rousay beauty therapist, Beauty by HanHan. Treatments on offer are either a mini-manicure, mini-pedicure, facial or a back, neck & shoulder massage.
The first sessions on 27th June and 25th July were fully booked with 7 people enjoying the treatments on offer each time and on 11th July another session was held for Triangle club members to enjoy a pamper. More dates are now arranged each month through to the end of November.
Both the Wellbeing Walks and Pampering sessions have been made possible thanks to grant funding from the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund from VAO and the Scottish Government.
Childrens Dance day
On 7th July Nicky planned an afternoon of dance for children aged from 2 years to 16 years with dance teacher Charlotte Hoque from North Isles Dance Academy. There were fun-filled classes for ballet, jazz and line dancing which were much enjoyed by all the kids attending. A big thank you to volunteer Jo Gray for helping out on the day too!
This event was subsidised by a Community Events grant from the Development Trust.
REWDT Grants
Triangle Club organised a trip to Scapa Flow Museum on Hoy in July and had a fantastic day.
We were delighted to be able to part-fund this through the REWDT Community Group Grant, which can be used to fund new activities or events.
