EV Car club

REWDT operates a Car Club where members can hire a Nissan Leaf Electric Car for as little as 1 hour. Membership is open to island residents and visitors and is subject to Terms and Conditions which can be viewed below.

The Electric Car is based at the Pier Building, where the charging point is located.

To apply to become a Car Club member, you can either fill in the form which can be download here and email it to us at info@rewdt.org or send it to us at:

REWDT, The Pier Cabin, Rousay, Orkney KW17 2PU

Please read the instructions on the form, as there is additional paperwork to complete before a membership is approved. If you need any help, please get in touch with the office. Please allow up to one week for the REWDT office to process your Car Club membership application.

Once you become a member, an REWDT staff member will need to show you around the car, to familiarise you with the vehicle and the procedures to follow. This will include how to access the key box (+code), charge it, start and run the vehicle, and any other relevant details.

As a member, booking the car couldn’t be easier! You can either phone the REWDT office on 821229 or book via the link where you can see, at a glance, if the car is free when you would like to use it. We can show you how online booking works, too!

Dial-A-Ride Community transport

We use a larger 8 seat vehicle for community transport – both on and off Rousay.

  • Trips on Rousay, every Monday & Wednesday between 9.30 and 15:00
  • Trips to the Orkney Mainland every 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month
  • Trips outside of these days can be requested.

Concessionary travel is free of charge, but there is a small charge for non-concessions (£1.50 on island and £5 off island – return fares).

To book a dial-a-ride:

We are also welcome drivers to help deliver this new service, either voluntary or paid. Please get in touch with us if you would like more information.

Electric bikes

We have electric bikes for residents to use to ‘try out’ and hire on a longer term basis. The bikes offer a great alternative to getting around the island! Please get in touch with the office to find out about the service.

Tourists and visitors can hire push bikes and e-bikes from Trumland Farm.
